Chemka Hot Springs
In Swahili “chemka” means boiling or bubbling. This beautiful mineral spring that originates from Kilimanjaro ground waters releases bubbles as it comes up into the natural pool surrounded by large fig trees. Here you can swim and snorkel in the transparent warm water (26 degrees), sunbathe or relax in hammocks in the shade.

Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera on the borders of Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern edge of Mount Kilimanjaro, an hours drive from Moshi town and 8 km north of Taveta. Depending on the time of year, it changes in colour from deep blue to turquoise and green and is surrounded by a 100 meter high crater rim.
Having reached the Lake, with a guide, you will descend for 30 minutes down into the crater, on foot, to discover the refreshing and rewarding water that awaits you. It is then completely up to you how long you want to spend down at the lake, either swimming or simply taking in the beautiful scenery that surrounds you. Having then made the hike back up to the picnic area and restaurant, you will see the delicious bbq feast that has been prepared for you. Depending on your taste buds, or dietary requirements, you will be able to specify the type of food that you would like prior to going on the trip.
You now have the choice of heading back to Moshi or spending the night and therefore a few more hours in this simply perfect spot.

Activities: walking safari, canoe safari, culture experience!
Around 20 -30 minutes outside of Moshi are Materuni waterfalls. As this trip is so close by it is ideal for those people with limited time but who would still like to see some of the nature and beauty that this region of Tanzania has to offer. These falls are smaller than the previously described Ndoro, but still pretty impressive at 150 meters high and definitely a sight worth seeing.
From Materuni Village we will walk some 30 minutes to the waterfall. The walk itself is extremely interesting, as you will see some smaller waterfalls and lots of waterways which are part of the irrigation system of the local farmers who grow coffee, bananas and many other fruits and vegetables.
At the waterfall, you can even refresh in the cool and crystal clear water – don’t forget to bring your swimwear! Here you will also break for lunch before doing a short tour of Materuni village to see the typical life of the Chagga tribe. The village, located at a height of around 1300 m (4300 ft) above sea level is set within a dramatic landscape of high rises and deep valleys, all covered by tropical rain forest.
